SUMMARY:Funds Congress 2026
DESCRIPTION:Funds Congress once again proved why it remains one of the most anticipated dates in the asset management calendar. The event was packed throughout the day\, bringing together senior leaders from across the industry for a series of thoughtful and wide-ranging discussions. \nA recurring theme this year was the maturity of the asset management conversation. The tone felt notably pragmatic. Rather than bold forecasts\, speakers focused on execution\, resilience and how firms are adapting to a more complex and demanding operating environment. \nThe CEO panel\, featuring leaders from Aberdeen\, Alliance Bernstein and HSBC\, offered a candid perspective on the current global landscape and where the industry is heading. Their discussion underscored the importance of strategic discipline\, operational strength and long-term thinking in navigating ongoing market and geopolitical uncertainty. \nTechnology\, and particularly artificial intelligence\, was another central topic. A behind-the-scenes look at how organisations such as BNY and Carne Group are approaching AI provided a grounded assessment of where the technology is genuinely delivering value today\, and where expectations may still be running ahead of reality. The emphasis was firmly on practical application rather than hype. \nThe retailisation of private markets also featured prominently\, with insights from Schroders\, Blackstone and the Platforms Association. Panellists shared real-world perspectives on how access is evolving\, the regulatory considerations involved\, and what sustainable growth in this space could look like. \nBeyond asset management\, the programme broadened to include geopolitics and media. Former Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt delivered a frank and personal assessment of the US relationship with Denmark\, including the situation in Greenland. Her contribution provided valuable context to the shifting geopolitical backdrop against which the industry operates. \nThe day concluded on a lighter note\, with Emily Maitlis and Lewis Goodall of The News Agents offering sharp political analysis\, alongside some well-judged humour\, on developments in the UK and globally. \nOverall\, Funds Congress 2026 felt well curated and highly relevant. The focus on realism\, operational delivery and resilience reflected an industry that is evolving thoughtfully\, and with greater clarity about both its opportunities and its constraints.

SUMMARY:Investment Funds Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Investment Funds Symposium\, hosted by Simmons & Simmons\, brought together policymakers\, industry leaders and advisers for a wide-ranging discussion on the future direction of the asset management sector. Held under Chatham House Rules\, the conversation was candid and constructive\, allowing for open exchanges across a number of significant themes. \nA clear message from policymakers was their intention to support the asset management industry. There was recognition of the sector’s role as a critical enabler of national growth and its importance in channelling savings into productive investment. The framing was positive\, positioning the industry as central to broader economic ambitions. \nThat optimism\, however\, was met with measured scepticism from some participants\, particularly those working in compliance and regulatory roles. While the rhetoric was encouraging\, there remains a degree of caution about how supportive policy intentions will translate into practical outcomes. The prevailing sentiment in these conversations was one of watchful patience. \nTwo themes that have dominated conference agendas in recent years\, ESG and retailisation\, were still present but noticeably less central. Rather than serving as headline topics\, they formed part of a broader discussion about market structure\, product evolution and regulatory direction. This shift perhaps reflects how embedded these issues have become within mainstream strategy. \nUnsurprisingly\, artificial intelligence featured prominently\, alongside private credit\, active ETFs and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. A panel discussion on defence stood out in particular\, reflecting how rapidly this area has moved into the mainstream of investment debate. \nTokenisation\, along with stablecoins and central bank digital currencies\, also received more serious consideration than in previous years. The tone suggested that these topics are moving from theoretical exploration to practical assessment. It would not be surprising to see them become a more consistent feature of industry events throughout 2026. \nOverall\, the Symposium provided a thoughtful and balanced forum for discussion. The tone was pragmatic\, with participants focused less on headline-grabbing predictions and more on navigating the operational and regulatory realities shaping the industry today.

SUMMARY:CIPR: Trump one year on event
DESCRIPTION:How the Trump Presidency Reshaped Global Brand Communications\nA panel discussion exploring how Donald Trump’s presidency has reshaped brand communications across the world. \nOne year into Trump’s time in office\, the global media and public relations landscape had already undergone a fundamental transformation. His unprecedented approach to policy\, media engagement\, and public discourse disrupted long-established conventions\, creating a lasting impact on how brands\, organisations\, and individuals communicate. \nThe session examined how brands could navigate this new reality and what the rise of the attention economy means for modern communications strategy. The expert panel discussed the President’s distinctive media tactics and their ripple effects across the industry\, offering insights to help shape brand strategies for the years ahead. \nThe Expert Panel\nFarzana Baduel\, Incoming President\, CIPR\, noted: “Trump’s presidency has redefined the power dynamics between politics\, media\, and brands. Understanding this new communications order is essential for anyone navigating today’s attention economy.” \nHasan Salim Patel\, Communications and Engagement Lead & former Al Jazeera journalist\, observed: “Donald Trump has not just bent the rules\, he has torn up the playbook. In one year\, he’s redefined how power speaks\, disrupts\, and dominates the narrative. His unfiltered use of media has reshaped the attention economy and\, whether we like it or not\, the PR world is still catching up.” \nMark Lowe\, Co-Founder of Third City\, reflected: “The hyper-politicisation of business (and by extension\, marketing) didn’t start with Donald Trump\, but he’s made it a lot worse. This is a complex reality that most business leaders would love to escape\, but the truth is that while you may not be interested in the culture war\, the culture war is interested in you.” \nPoppy Mitchell-Rose\, Partner at Freuds\, also joined the discussion\, bringing valuable insight into the evolving relationship between politics\, public discourse\, and brand storytelling.

SUMMARY:MSC's Sustainable Investing
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Networking Event: The Evolving Relationship Between Asset Owners and Managers \nThis sustainable networking event explored how evolution and consolidation were reshaping the relationship between asset owners and managers. \nAs intermediation continued to lose its dominance\, the industry was seen to be moving away from an era defined by transactions towards one built on collaboration. Much of this shift was framed around the growing significance of auto-enrolled workplace and open defined-benefit schemes\, whose expanding assets under management were highlighted as becoming key stores of future retirement wealth. Throughout the discussion\, it was clear that both asset owners and managers were being challenged to adopt a new mindset in response to these changes. \nThe discussion featured an expert panel including: \nStuart Woollard\, Co-Founder of The Maturity Institute \nPhil Butler\, CFA\, Deputy Chief Investment Officer at People’s Partnership \nMitesh Sheth MBE\, Founder of OrgAlpha and former CEO of Redington \nSteve Turner\, Partner and Senior Investment Consultant at Mercer \nThe session provided a valuable opportunity to hear a range of perspectives on how collaboration\, sustainability\, and long-term value creation were increasingly redefining the asset management landscape.

SUMMARY:MSC's Networking Event
DESCRIPTION:Moore Squared Communications hosted a panel discussion on how to make retirement income sustainable. As defined contribution pots become the principal source of retirement wealth\, the industry is grappling with how to build an income for members that will last throughout their lifetime and will avoid climate change risk. \n\nThe government recently said it wants choices to be simplified and for all pension schemes to offer default retirement income. This will put further pressure on the industry to come up with workable solutions.
