SUMMARY:Pension Schemes Panel
DESCRIPTION:The discussion focused on which approach is more sustainable – buy-out or run-on. The rise in bond yields in recent years has caused a seismic shift in the funding levels of closed DB schemes. With many schemes now in surplus\, this has accelerated the route to buy-out while also making run-on a viable alternative. As the government seeks to lift restrictions on how pension schemes can invest their surpluses\, there is likely to be an increased incentive to consider run-on rather than buy-out. The session explored how this shift has reshaped the DB investment landscape and its implications for sustainable investment strategies. \nJoining the debate: Chris Hogg\, former trustee CEO at Royal Mail and National Grid; Sofia Perkonigg\, board director of UBS pension trustee company; Paul Kitson\, UK head of pensions consulting at EY; and Jenny Murray\, sustainability analyst within Rothesay’s sustainability risk team.

SUMMARY:CAIA Private Credit Event
DESCRIPTION:Opportunities in European Private Credit \nLiminal attended an insightful discussion on the opportunities in European private credit\, hosted by the CAIA Association in London. The conversation explored key drivers behind the growing market\, including the retrenchment of risk-averse banks\, the challenges of a fragmented landscape\, and the high barriers to entry for new players. \nWith fewer corporate loans being issued—particularly in the mid-market space—and larger US investors deterred by smaller ticket sizes\, the European market presents a compelling opportunity for private lenders. Beyond investor potential\, private credit is poised to support economic growth and productivity gains. \nA huge thank you to speakers Stuart Fiertz\, Matthieu Le Bret\, FRM\, CAIA\, and Jack Edwards for sharing their insights\, and to Elena Koycheva\, CFA\, CAIA\, CIPM for expertly hosting the discussion.

SUMMARY:Funds Congress
DESCRIPTION:The Funds Congress 2025\, hosted by Carne\, Dechert\, and PwC\, provided valuable insights into the evolving investment landscape. This year’s discussions centred on three key themes: \n\nThe Shift to Retail – Expanding access to private market investments for retail investors emerged as a major focus\, presenting both opportunities and regulatory considerations.\nLiquidity and Pricing Challenges – With increased retail participation\, there was heightened scrutiny on liquidity risks and the effective pricing of illiquid assets.\nThe Role of Technology – AI\, tokenisation\, automation\, and digital assets featured prominently as firms explore new ways to enhance efficiency and market infrastructure.\n\nAn emerging trend to watch is the growing demand for bespoke investment solutions\, driven by asset owners seeking tailored exposures and outcomes. \n

SUMMARY:Fincom Bar Talk 2024
DESCRIPTION:Fincom Bar Talk: Navigating Information Overload in Financial Communications \nIn November 2024 we hosted our inaugural Fincom Bar Talk where we explored the future of financial communications with Sarah Provan (Financial Times) and Andreas Hippin (Börsen-Zeitung). The discussion centred on information overload—a challenge that resonated with both journalists and communications professionals alike. \nOne key takeaway was the importance of quality over quantity. While a volume-driven approach to media and marketing may yield short-term success\, the consensus was clear: sustained impact comes from well-crafted\, high-value content. \nSpecial thanks to Thomas Egger for co-hosting this Fincom Alliance event with us and to the entire Liminal team for ensuring everything ran seamlessly. Stay tuned for details on our next event!

SUMMARY:WE's Career Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Women in ETFs: ‘Pathway to Excellence’ Panel on Career Journeys \nWe had the privilege of attending the Women in ETFs ‘Pathway to Excellence’ panel\, hosted in collaboration with Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The discussion was packed with valuable insights from an incredible panel of guests\, expertly led by Kiron Chapman-McLaughlin: \n\nBrendan McCarthy – Managing Director\, Global Head of ETFs at Goldman Sachs Asset Management\nMarie-Laure Humbert – Executive Director\, Head of Business Strategy EMEA at Goldman Sachs Asset Management\nKate Dwyer – Head of UK Distribution at Invesco\nRoxane Sanguinetti – Co-Head of Women in ETFs\, London Chapter & Founding Partner of Alma Angels\n\nOne standout moment was Marie-Laure’s powerful message on the importance of brand visibility over performance. She shared that only 10% of promotion decisions are based on performance\, with the remaining 90% driven by image and exposure—something that surprised many of us! \nThe panelists also shared that their career journeys weren’t built on rigid plans. Instead\, they took risks\, stepped out of their comfort zones\, and embraced opportunities that initially felt out of reach. Their advice was clear: “comfort is a cage.”
