The 10 cases
We recently visited 10 Cases in Covent Garden after hearing about it from several people, and it’s easy to see why it’s become such a favourite among London wine lovers. Tucked away on Endell Street, it’s one of those places that feels lively without being overwhelming, with a relaxed, neighbourhood atmosphere that’s just as suited to a catch-up with friends as it is to a client lunch.
What first caught my attention was the concept. Rather than stocking an enormous wine list that never changes, the restaurant keeps things deliberately simple: 10 white wines and 10 red wines at any one time, all available by the glass, carafe or bottle. Once a wine sells out, it’s gone, and another takes its place. Apparently, in more than a decade of trading, they haven’t listed the same wine twice, which makes every visit feel a little different.
The food follows the same philosophy. The menu is compact, seasonal and changes regularly, with a mix of small plates, charcuterie, cheese and larger dishes designed to pair naturally with the wines. It’s the kind of place where sharing a few plates over a bottle (or two) feels like the right approach, rather than committing to a traditional three-course meal.
In a city full of restaurants trying to impress with endless choice, 10 Cases stands out by doing the opposite. The focus is simply on good food, interesting wines and knowledgeable staff who are genuinely enthusiastic about what they’re serving. If you’re looking for somewhere informal but consistently excellent in the heart of Covent Garden, it’s well worth adding to your list.
